It was not the best of start for former Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala as caretaker coach of struggling Kortrijk, following their 2-1 home loss to Westerlo in the Belgian league on Friday.

Akpala was drafted in on interim bases after the sacking of Belgian coach Glen De Boeck last week.

Kortrijk are now winless in their last six games, losing four and drawing two.

Fridays loss was their 11th with two wins and four draws after 17 league games played this season.

Westerlo took the lead on 33 minutes through Matija Frigan but Isaak Davies equalized for Kortrijk in 65 minutes.

With three minutes left Erdon Daci netted the winner for Westerlo.

The defeat leaves Kortrijk in bottom on 10 points in the 16-team league table.

Akpala and his side will be back in action next Sunday away to Genk in a league fixture.
