Former Brazil striker Romario has backed Fernando Diniz to return Selecao to the summit of world football.

The Brazil Football Federation appointed Dinz interim head coach of the national team in July 2023 on a one-year contract.

Ramon Menezes took charge of the five-time world champions after Tite resigned from the post following Brazil exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

In an interview with Panorama Esportivo as quoted by tuttomercatoweb.com, Romario praised Diniz saying he does what he can.

Diniz is the best coach we have, Romario said.

With the national team he doesnt have the same material that he can dedicate to a club, namely training. He does what he can, in the last two matches he has drawn and lost but no one always wins. And in my opinion the Brazilian team is in excellent hands with him.

Dinz, will combine the role with that of Brazilian top club Fluminense.

The 49-year-old will hope to help the South Americans secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Brazil currently occupy third position on the Conmebol standings with seven points from four games.

Brazil will play Colombia in their next fixture on November 17.
