Super Falcons Will Reclaim WAFCON Title At Morocco 2024 Madugu

The Interim Coach of Nigerias senior national womens team, Justin Madugu, has expressed the optimism that Super Falcons will return to Morocco next year to reclaim the Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title the team lost to South Africa last year, Completesports.com reports

Fresh from bagging a qualifying ticket to WAFCON 2024, in an interim capacity, c? Madugu said that Super Falcons remain the team to beat despite a recent dip in form, adding that Nigeria still boasts of a strong pool of players good enough to win back the title.

In spite of recent developments in womens football across Africa, we still believe in ourselves. We remain the best team in Africa. Our target and focus is nothing other than going for the trophy in Morocco. We have to prove that what happened last time around was a mistake which we are ready to correct by winning back the trophy, Madugu Madugu who assisted Randy Waldrum at the 2023 FIFAWomens World Cup in Australia and New Zealand told Completesports.com.

Since Nigerians are used to our winning the trophy, we are going to do everything possible to ensure that we bring back the trophy and make them happy again. We learned a lot from the last WAFCON and we shall use it to prepare this time around to ensure that we do not repeat the errors that cost us the title.

Asked if there is any country he dreads in Africa going into next years WAFCON, Madugu said: Super Falcons do not fear any team in Africa. Rather, other countries should dread us. We have not fallen to the level of dreading anybody. We have respect for every team, but Super Falcons will never dread anybody.

On his experience since taking charge as head coach, Madugu stated that it has not been easy but is happy that he qualified the team for WAFCON 2024 and hopefully, will also get the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ticket, adding that being in charge comes with higher challenges.

The little success we have achieved is a collective one because, the NFF, the players, and the backroom staff have been very supportive and I appreciate all their efforts. We are together in this journey and by the grace of God, we shall get there whether I am in charge of the team or not. The aim is to qualify for the Olympic Games and win the 2024 WAFCON, Madugu stated.
