Klopp: Liverpool Should Have Scored More Goals Against Brighton

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp says that his team forced Brighton and Hove Albion to make errors during their 2-2 Premier League draw on Sunday, October 8 at the Falmer Stadium.

Ivorian winger Simon Adingra scored the opening goal of the game for Brighton in the 20th minute.

Egyptian legend Mohammed Salah equalised for Liverpool in the 40th minute and he netted again six minutes later to give the Reds a 2-1 lead.

Lewis Dunk equalised for the home team in the 78th minute of the second half.

Liverpool missed the opportunity to move into second place on the league table after dropping two points in encounter.

Speaking in the post-match conference, Klopp said both teams made mistakes during the match.

“I think unfortunately yes,” liverpoolfc.com quoted Klopp as saying.

“One-nil served on a plate, but similar situation (for us) ; we forced them to make similar mistakes around our goals. Two-one up is a good result for half-time here because it is a really good team and it is really difficult to defend them all the time.

“We wanted to do high pressing, it was the right thing to do, but in the same moment it caused the issue that they play out from time to time, we don’t win the ball and then the pitch is really big and (we are) chasing back. They do that well.

“I think it is clear in the second half that we should have scored for 3-1, there were one or two really good opportunities but because we don’t score there, we keep the game open and in this area where the free kick happened and we produced too many set- pieces, corners and especially free-kicks.

“I saw it back and if one of our boys touched it I think it was an own goal. That’s what a set piece it was. Then Dunk was there and could score from there. It was intense for both teams , so I think it’s the right result in the end.”

Salah’s brace has seen him add another achievement to his already impressive catalogue.

He has scored eight goals against the Seagulls. He has now eclipsed former Liverpool forward Sir Kenny Daglish’s record of six goals in the fixture.

Liverpool are the second most successful team in Premier League history as they have won the trophy 19 times with their most recent win coming in the 2019/20 season.

They are are currently fourth on the Premier League table with 17 points after eight games in the division.

The Reds will face Everton next on Saturday, October 21 at the Anfield Stadium.
