UCL: Foden Delighted With Man City Win Over RB Leipzig

Manchester City forward Phil Foden has expressed delight after scoring for the Cityzens in their 3-1 UEFA Champions League win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday, Oct 4 at the Red Bull Arena.

Foden scored the opening goal of the match in the 25th minute.

Ikoma-Lois Openda equalised for the home team in the 48th minute of the second half.

Argentine sensation Julian Alvarez made it 2-1 in the 84th minute and a Jeremy Doku strike sealed the victory in the 92nd minute.

City finally got a win after back to back defeats against Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In an interview with mancity.com, Foden said he was glad that the Cityzens were finally on the winning side.

“It’s very satisfying to score in the biggest competition. It’s always a delight for me,” Foden said.

“It’s something for me to add on now keep scoring goals. It’s very important. We know what they’re about. The last time we played them, we were very good in the first half then they came out in the second half and they performed.

“At halftime the manager said we have to be ready because they will come out firing. They scored an early goal which wasn’t ideal, but the way the team reacted and the way we controlled the game, it was an unbelievable display today.

“The last two games were not ideal for us. We’ve come off the back of two rubbish results. Today we had to make that right. We definitely did that. The way we performed throughout the full game was a delight to watch so in really happy.”

Foden has one goal and one assist in two Champions League matches this season.

He has scored 11 Champions League goals in total in his career.

Manchester City are first in Group G of the 2023/24 Champions League with six points from two matches.

They are the current holders of the UEFA Champions League trophy having clinched the title in the 2022/23 season.

City are first on the Premier League table with 18 points after seven games in the division.

RB Leipzig are second in Group G of the 2023/24 standings with three points after matchday two.

Leipzig have never won the UEFA Champions League.
